I’ll preface, that I’m not a The Foo Fighters fan. I’ve tried getting into them and their sound just never stuck for me. Despite this, at some point, I discovered The Foo Fighters song Big Me and listened to that on repeat for a while. It’s a song I don’t skip when it comes on because, for whatever reason, it’s a happy song (I think) and makes me happy listening to it.

Concerning Everlong, I only found out about it existing from, of all places, the show This is Us, when one of the characters talks about impressing his partner, with an acoustic serenade of Everlong. From there, I listened to the acoustic version of Everlong for a while and then forgot about it.

Naturally, like most people into music, I’ve been curious about the band “Nirvana” so I looked into the members individually, first Kurt, then eventually Dave. The more I learned about Dave, the more I started to like him. Recently hearing him speak on the Foo Fighters YouTube channel about Everlong, and also hear the audio from his upcoming book, the more my mutual admiration and respect grew for him, not only as a musician but as an individual. I think he’s a cool and down-to-earth dude who also just happens to be a great musician.

I think the first time I heard the “full/proper” version of Everlong was after I finished watching Dave briefly narrating his upcoming book on the Foo Fighters YouTube channel, and I stumbled across the music video for Everlong.

Holy. Levels.

The acoustic version of Everlong is a masterpiece, but the full version of Everlong is just another stratosphere level of good. I’m not even close to being a musician or pretending I know anything about how music works, but I know good music when I hear it. The guitar parts, in particular, the gentle guitar strumming opening, and the hard and melodic ascending riffs, really make this song for me. The riffs, in particular, are truly some of the best riffs I’ve ever heard in my life. Just simply eargasmic!

Been listening to Everlong on repeat as I typed this out. This when I know a song has captured my imagination.
